Diverging on the Devil — Sharpie Mayhem

I am a brainstormer. An idea guy. An innovator. A creative catalyst. I think up a lot of ideas. Lots and lots. I facilitate and participate in idea generation sessions professionally. In the “divergent” ideation stage of creative problem solving, your mission is to think up a lot of ideas (without judging them) and write them down. And to keep on generating ideas as long as you can. Whole teams of people are typically involved. As one who is an expert in divergent creative thinking, and also a humor writer and satirist, I have greatly enjoyed the output of the many who have displayed their creative and satirical prowess on social media these last couple of days around “Sharpie-Gate”. I have laughed out loud. Plenty.

To call Satan evil is to compliment him and enhance his power. Ridicule is the way to confront the Devil. He already knows he is evil. So suggest that his horns are “smallish”, point to the toilet paper stuck to his cloven hoof, or stick a “Kick Me” sign on his prickly back. I expect to see the output continue indefinitely — and I look forward to it. Kudos to the funny, the brave, the creative satirists out there … and keep your Sharpies at the ready!
